Beatrice Hankins

Beatrice (Betty) E Hankins died Tuesday, May 12, 2026 peacefully at the Evergreens in Moorestown. She was 97 years old. Betty was a beloved wife, devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, faithful friend, and member of her church community. She grew up in Collingswood, NJ and became a devoted Moorestown girl who lived and loved the community for 70 years. She was born in Collingswood on October 10, 1928 to Bernice and Charles Burkett. She was the wife of the late Gerald Hankins for 75 years. She is survived by her son Thomas Hankins (Mary) and daughter Joanne Hankins. She has 4 granddaughters Taylor Coursey (Kevin), Kendall Makrez (JP), Devon Peterson (Luke) and Carson Hankins (Chandler) and great grandchildren Morgan, Paige, Ari, Emmett Gerald, Landon and Lowen. Betty had a remarkably full life that she could vividly recall, and she enjoyed sharing her many experiences with family and friends. She was born in Collingswood and grew up in her parents funeral home there. She traveled cross country to California as a child on several occasions in the family Model A. Her husband Jerry was a Rutgers grad and was stationed in Germany after WW II. They enjoyed campus living and later experienced Europe together. Most of all, she loved life in Moorestown and the many relationships made there over 70 years. She loved playing bridge with her lady friends, sharing laughter and stories around the card table. Summers at Sunnybrook Swim Club brought her happiness and winters spent in Florida enabled her to reconnect with friends there. Beach vacations at LBI and Stone Harbor with her family and grandchildren created great family times filled with sunshine, love, and togetherness. She also cared deeply for the staff and her friends at the Evergreens where she lived the last 12 years of her life. We are grateful for the care and quality of life they provided her with. Betty was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian church of Moorestown for more than 60 years. She lived her faith through kindness and compassion. She was an exceptional pianist and joyfully sang in the church choir for over a decade, sharing both her voice and her spirit with the congregation she loved so dearly. She will be remembered for her warm heart, sharp mind, sense of humor, and the caring she gave so freely to all those around her. A Memorial service will be held 11 am Wednesday, May 20th at the Chapel of the Evergreen’s , 309 Bridgeboro Rd, Moorestown, NJ 08057. Visitation will be from 10- 11 am at the Chapel.
