Carol Jean Ellis

Carol Jean "CJ" Ellis (née Hammerschmidt), age 82, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2026, in Marlton, New Jersey. Born on December 13, 1943, in Long Island, New York, she lived a vibrant and full life marked by her boundless energy, generosity, and fearless spirit. Carol was an accomplished editor for a veterinary publication, dedicating her career to precision and excellence in her field. Her work reflected her sharp intellect and commitment to quality, earning her respect among colleagues. She shared a remarkable life with her late husband, A. Brian Ellis. Together they embraced adventure and cherished their time spent fishing at the shore on their boat. Their shared love extended to the skies as they flew their Cessna airplane and enjoyed time with many friends at the airport. Later in life, they found joy riding their Honda Goldwing motorcycle, embodying a spirit of independence and fearlessness that defined Carol’s character. Family was central to Carol’s life. She is survived by her sister Sue Coladarci; her son William Ellis; and stepchildren Wendy Ellis, Chris Ellis, and Merle Compton. She will be deeply missed by her seven grandchildren—Monica Ellis, Derrick Ellis, Jill Thompson, Rachel Beveridge, Audrey Doyle, Chase Compton, and Courtney Willits—and six great-grandchildren: Eliza, Evelyn, Isla, Jett, Devyn, and Magnolia. Carol was predeceased by her beloved husband Brian; her brother Jim Hammerschmidt; and her grandchild Nick Thompson. Carol’s love for Christmas was unmatched; it was a season she embraced with enthusiasm and joy. Her generosity knew no bounds as she always put others first. Fiercely independent throughout her life, she inspired those around her with her strength and determination. May Carol’s memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her. Her kindness, energy, and spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched. A Memorial Service will be held on March 4, 2026, at 02:00 PM at Lewis Funeral Home 78 E Main Street. Moorestown, NJ 08057. Visitation will be held form 1:30 - 2pm at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
