Charles "Joe" Moloney MD

Charles Joseph "Joe" Moloney, age 90, passed away surrounded by his family on April 6, 2025. He was also known as Pop-Pop, and to his young patients as "Dr Baloney". Born in Philadelphia on April 29, 1934, to Genevieve and Cletus G. Moloney, Joe was a happy, good-spirited and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many. He enjoyed hearing and telling jokes and had an infectious laugh. True to his Irish heritage, he relished the opportunity to share his wisdom and knowledge over a tasty beverage. Joe is fondly remembered by many as a wonderful, caring and excellent pediatrician. Joe loved his Philadelphia sports teams, especially the Phillies and the Eagles. Joe was a member of the Moorestown Field Club, an avid bridge player, a long-time resident of Chester Avenue, and a loving participant of daily mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and his three loving sisters, Mary, Marjorie (Sutton), and Genevieve (Burns). Joe leaves behind his loving wife of 65 years, Bernardine, and his children Charles "Chuck" Jr. (Grace), Eileen Zell (Brad), Michael (Mary), Margaret "Peggy" Hill (Jack), and Daniel (Barb). His grandchildren Cassie, Joseph III (Olivia), Michael (Andrea), James (Stephanie), Sean (Nicole), Madeline (David), Vince, Connor (Daniella), Neil (Kaylee), Sarah (Nick), Cannon, Megan, Hannah, Sophia, Tatum, Clete, Sheamus, Liam, and Maggie. His great grandchildren Layla, Cole, Kieran, Ashton, Callan, Veronica, Quinn, CJ IV, and Logan. Joe graduated from St. Tommy More High School Class of 1952, LaSalle College 1956, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine 1960. Joe served in the United States Navy as a Flight Surgeon from 1959 to 1966. Joe completed his residency in Pediatrics at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in 1968. Joe opened his practice in Moorestown in 1968. He served the community with kindness and patience. It was not uncommon for those in need to stop by the house and Joe would say "get my bag," his leather doctor's bag. He was always ready to help. That bag also went with him to summer trips for over 20 years to the Outer Banks in North Carolina with the whole Moloney family. Joe's smile, bright outlook, and constant kindness will be missed. He was a wonderful soul and role model, and he left a wonderful legacy. A mass of Christian burial will be Monday, April 14 at 10:30AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church 42 W. Main St., Moorestown, New Jersey. Viewing will be in the church from 9:30 - 10:30 am. Interment Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Moorestown, NJ.
