Elizabeth H Newell

Elizabeth Hopkins Newell went home to be with her Heavenly Father at age 93 on October 28, 2022, in Canton, Georgia. Elizabeth was born on August 1, 1929 in Woodbury, NJ to Calvin and Alice Bleam. She was affectionately known to many as ‘Aunt Betty.’ She loved the Lord and accepted Him as her Savior at an early age. Betty graduated from Rancocas Valley Regional High School on June 12, 1947. She was active in many sports, including cheer leading, basketball, and field hockey. She was a member of the high school yearbook club as well as many other high school organizations. She spent many summers picking blueberries. After graduating from high school, she worked for S. Kind & Sons Jewelers and Silversmiths in Philadelphia and at Strawbridge & Clothier in Philadelphia, Pa. She married the love of her life, Charles William Newell on August 14, 1948. They were married for 67 years and raised their family in Medford, New Jersey. She is survived by her five daughters: Debra Newell Croft (John), Janice Newell Kicher (Larry), Constance Jean Ford, Heidi Ann Gardner (Ray), and Janine Newell Bauder (Todd). She is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Kendra Boozer (Jace), Kristen Richardson (Eric), Michael Kicher (Danielle), Amy Parker (Brad), Rebecca Gidel, Lauren Gidel, Don Gidel, Jamie Clark (Dwayne), Eric Gardner (Julie), Austin Bauder (Linda), and Connor Bauder; and 9 great grandchildren: Caden and Ellie Richardson, Kate, Allie, Sophie, and Isabelle Kicher, Nathan and Anna Parker, and Mason Clark. Betty is also survived by her brother, John “Jack” Bleam. She is predeceased by her husband, Charles, and her son, James Allen Newell. She was an active member of Easton Union Church, teaching in Sunday School, singing in the choir, working with Pioneer Girls, and using her gift of playing the piano. She worked with several ladies to make and serve food for family funeral gatherings at Bodine Chapel. She and Charles traveled to Irian Jaya, Indonesia, to visit and work with missionaries Marvin and Peggy Newell. She also volunteered at the Cedar Lane Missionary Home, where she helped organize donated items for their fundraising yard sales. She opened her home and served delicious Sunday meals to many of her friends and family; everyone felt welcomed at her home and enjoyed her wonderful cooking. Betty loved the ocean and shore and was often seen collecting shells. She looked forward to trips to Long Beach Island and, later in her life, to Litchfield Beach, SC. She was a talented cook, made many of her daughters’ clothes, and was an avid gardener and talented piano player. She also loved the Phillies, especially Chase Utley, and she enjoyed countless games both in person and on television. Funeral services will be held on November 8 at 10:30 am at Easton Bible Church, 2407 Fostertown Rd., Hainesport, NJ. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30-10:30 am. Burial will follow at the Easton Bible Church Cemetery.
