Elizabeth H Schurmann

Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Heald Schurmann died peacefully in her own home on December 12, 2025 at the age of 92. Born on April 10, 1933 in Ventnor City, NJ to Elisabeth and Edward Heald. Betty was the proud mother of Elisabeth Jane Lefferts (Roger), grandmother of Sarah Fosdick (Samuel), Martha Blodgett (Michael), and Jonathan Lefferts (Brianne), and great-grandmother to Beckett Arthur, Holland Jane, Peyton Nicole, Reid Andrew, and Henry Edward. She was raised and remained close to her younger sister Margaret ‘Peggy’ Hartmann and she was the wife of the late Robert E. Schurmann. Betty will be remembered fondly by her cousins, nephews, nieces and was especially thankful for her nephew Edward Hartmann (Teresa) for their love and support. Betty was also fond of indirect family relatives including the Eisenhardt’s who played essential roles throughout her life. Betty graduated from Haddon Heights High School in 1950, earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Bucknell University and her Master of Education degree from Rutgers University in Guidance and Personnel. Betty’s career as an educator began in New Jersey with classroom instruction and culminated as a guidance counselor when she retired from the Abington School District in Pennsylvania. Betty was active in AAUW from graduation throughout her entire life. She was recognized in Who’s Who of American Women for her contributions to education, leadership and community engagement. In addition to AAUW, Betty was an active member of The Women’s Club of Merchantville, Forty Club of Haddonfield, and the First Presbyterian Church of Moorestown where she served as a Deacon. Betty thrived when she was with people; in exercise class, playing Bridge, at church, with caregivers, friends, truly at any gathering. She was a devoted friend along with being a passionate Phillies and Eagles fan. From childhood, Betty loved sitting in the sunshine, and she enjoyed many years as a ‘snowbird’ in Jensen Beach, Florida after retiring. She is well remembered by her Abington, AAUW, church, bridge, Meadowbrook, Moorestown and Wiley friends. Visitation will take place from 9:00 – 10:00 A.M. on Friday, January 9, 2026 at the Wiley Church, 101 East Main Street in Marlton, followed by a 10:00 A.M. Service of Worship and Witness to the Resurrection. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Moorestown, 101 Bridgeboro Road P.O.
