Margaret J Gunn

Margaret Joan Gunn, née Koenig, a cherished resident of The Evergreens in Moorestown, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on March 23, 1932, in the Bronx, Margaret was raised in New York City and lived a vibrant, full life that touched the hearts of many. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 26 years, James “Jim” Andrew Gunn, and later partner of 34 years, Richard “Dick” Graef. Margaret, who was affectionately known as Marge, Sissy, Aunt Magoo, Maggie, Midge, Gramie, Grammie, and Oma, was the proud mother of her two daughters, Susan Carney (Tom) and Judy Rice. She was also a devoted grandmother to Andrew (Julia), Jaimeson, Ryan (Anne), Kathryn (Ben), and Allie (Parker). Her legacy continues through her beloved great-grandchildren: Max, Chloe, Calvin, Owen, and great-grandchild number five, due in February. A woman of German heritage, Margaret embraced life with enthusiasm and joy. She had a passion for cooking that brought family and friends together around her table. Growing up, she spent many summers in Bear Mountain, and loved spending time outdoors skiing, ice skating, and boating. Her profound love of animals was evident at an early age, and continued throughout her entire life, adopting countless dogs and cats—notably her beloved cat, Jody, and her cherished boxers, Susie Q, Hungry Herman, and show dog, Jim Dandy of Breezewood Kennels. In later years, she enjoyed playing golf, going to the theater, traveling to Europe, camping across the U.S., Outback’s Bloomin’ Onions, and playing mahjong with “the Girls.” She was, in fact, affectionately known as a "Golden Girl" who lit up every gathering with her lively spirit. She graduated from Spencer Business College in Patterson, NJ and worked as an Administrative Assistant at DuPont, and later at International Paper Company in Tuxedo Park, New York, close to where she and Jim raised their daughters in beautiful Greenwood Lake, before retiring to Melbourne Beach, Florida and then Hilton Head, South Carolina. Margaret’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her as a loving matriarch, a loyal friend, a passionate animal lover, and someone who found joy in both simple pleasures and grand adventures. Her only regret is missing her last hair appointment. Funeral Services and a celebration of her life will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
