Mary Grace Walsh

Mary Grace Walsh (nee Flynn), aged 92, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2024, in Moorestown, New Jersey. She was born on November 20, 1931 in Philadelphia, PA to Daniel Byrne Flynn and Grace Field Flynn. Mary Grace was the older sister of her beloved siblings, Daniel Byrne Flynn, Jr. (Nora), and Susanne Carson (James). She graduated from West Catholic Girls High School in Philadelphia and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rosemont College in Bryn Mawr, PA. In 1958, Mary Grace married Joseph F. Walsh of Albany, New York, but God called him to heaven just two years later. God blessed her with a son, Joseph Walsh (Claire) of Moorestown, NJ, and two loving grandchildren, Matthew Walsh of Moorestown and Kathleen Walsh of Mount Laurel. Mary Grace was a devoted aunt, affectionately known as “Aunt Boo” to her nine nieces and nephews. Mary Grace always valued education and began her professional career as an elementary school teacher at St. Francis Catholic School in Philadelphia. After her husband passed, she returned to Villanova University, earned a Masters Degree in Library Science, and served as the school librarian at St. Andrew’s Parish School in Drexel Hill, PA. In 1971, she moved to Moorestown, NJ and became an elementary school librarian in the Gloucester Township Public Schools, sharing her love of books and learning with countless students until her retirement in 1994. Whenever her grandchildren were involved in an activity or playing a sport, “Gram” would be in the stands or on the sidelines cheering them on. The Phillies were her favorite team, and each day during the season she would faithfully confirm with family the time of the game and the TV channel she could watch the game on. She brightened every holiday event with her optimistic personality and, when she chose to share it, her quick wit. Mary Grace was a devoted member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Moorestown for over 52 years. She regularly attended morning Mass, served as a Eucharistic Minister throughout the parish, and assisted on countless committees and parish projects. Her strong religious faith was a guiding principle throughout her life. Although she faced many challenges, Mary Grace lived her life with a positive outlook, always seeming to see the good in everyone she encountered. Her gentle kindness will be missed by family, friends and neighbors. Visitation for family and friends will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 42 W. Main Street, Moorestown, New Jersey on Monday, July 29, 2024 at 9:30 A.M., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 A.M. The interment will be private.
