Elizabeth Eugenia Robertson Smith (Betsy) Elizabeth R. Smith died suddenly on February 28 as a result of an automobile accident. Born April 17, 1930, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, she was the daughter of Dr. Robert C. and Frankie C. Robertson. She attended the Bright School and Girls Preparatory School in Chattanooga, and graduated from Swarthmore College in 1951 with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Psychology. She then attended the Pennsylvania School of Occupational Therapy of the University of Pennsylvania, receiving her certificate in Occupational Therapy in 1953. She went on to work in her chosen field, employed by the former Holy Ghost Hospital, now Youville Hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts. After moving to Moorestown in 1955, she was employed by Moss Rehabilitation Hospital in Philadelphia and later Camden County General Hospital in Blackwood, New Jersey. Married in 1953 to Stephen T. Smith of Mattapoisett, Massachusetts, in Chattanooga, she retired from Occupational Therapy to raise her family, become a full time homemaker and active community member in 1958. Betsy was a founding member of Save the Environment in Moorestown (STEM) and was recognized for over 50 years service to The League of Women Voters. Her community involvement included active membership in the First Presbyterian Church of Moorestown, where she served on the Music Committee, played in the Hand Bell Choir, and served as a Deacon. She loved to travel with family and friends, enjoyed horseback riding and attending theater and Philadelphia Orchestra concerts. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Steve, sons Robert (Kathryn) of Marlton, Brian (Debra) of Tolland Connecticut, and Stephen Jr. (Suzanne) of Tabernacle, and seven grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Louise Hodgson, of North Hills, Pennsylvania, several cousins, nieces and nephews, and her beloved horse, Motorman. Friends may visit on Monday, March 5, from 6 to 8 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Moorestown, 101 Bridgeboro Road in Moorestown. Services will be held on Tuesday March 6 at 10:30 am in the church. Interment will follow immediately. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Save the Environment in Moorestown (STEM), P.O.
