James E. Campbell
November 25, 2021
James E. (Jim) Campbell passed away peacefully on November 25, 2021. In his final days, he was surrounded by the love of the friends and family members he cherished. Son of James E. Campbell, Sr. and Jean Campbell (née Finnegan), Jim was raised in Collingswood, NJ. Jim treasured growing up beside his siblings, brother Joseph (Eileen) Campbell and Mary (Dennis) Capella, with whom he shared a lifelong bond. Jim attended St. Joseph’s University where he majored in Food Marketing. After graduation, Jim worked briefly with Texas Instruments before pursuing his dream of joining the New Jersey State Police. In 1978, he graduated from the NJSP academy as the Outstanding Recruit. Over a career that spanned nearly thirty years, Jim achieved the rank of Major and was twice named as Trooper of the Year. However, what Jim valued most about his time with the NJSP were the relationships. Some of his fondest memories were spent with the friends who became family, and the many golf outings and ski trips they enjoyed after retirement. After retiring from the NJSP in 2004, Jim continued to serve the State of New Jersey as a Special Agent with the State Commission of New Jersey. Jim defined himself not by his career, but by his devotion to his family. In 1986, he married his beloved wife Monica (née Boyle). Together they raised their two children, daughter Erin (Robert C.) Allsop and son Andrew in Moorestown, NJ. Jim was overjoyed to become a grandfather to his grandson Robert M. Allsop in 2019. His family fondly remembers time spent outdoors together, taking hikes and bike rides. Jim loved traveling with his family to Europe, running and physical fitness. He could frequently be spotted on long weekend runs throughout Moorestown. Jim was a voracious reader who was especially fond of biographies and history. He spent many happy days sitting on his back patio reading a book in the sunshine with his Golden Retriever, Marshall. Jim lived with Lewy Body Dementia for the last few years of his life. He battled the disease with the utmost bravery, grace and strength. The disease never claimed Jim’s dignity or sense of self. Jim leaves behind a legacy of duty, honor and service. He will be truly missed by family and friends. Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday Eve Dec. 2nd from 6- 8 pm at the Lewis Funeral Home, 78 E. Main St. Moorestown, NJ. A Memorial service will be held on Friday Dec. 3rd at 10:30 am at the Moorestown Community House 16 E. Main St. Moorestown, NJ. Family request that people return to their vehicles after greeting with the family and to refrain from contact and the wearing of Masks and Social distancing to occur at all events! Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers , kindly consider a donation in Jim’s name to The Tender, Inc., 4501 Church Road, Mt.
