Jane U. Goodnow
January 3, 2019
Jane Elizabeth Updike Goodnow died peacefully in her home at The Evergreens in Moorestown, NJ, on January 3, 2019. She was 94. Jane lived most of her life in New Jersey, having been born and raised in Princeton, then a longtime resident of Moorestown, where she and her late husband Weston W. Goodnow lived in the same house on Chester Avenue for 50 years. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in music from Douglass College at Rutgers, Jane went on to an accomplished lifetime of playing and teaching the piano, with many students of all ages. In her 60s, she returned to academics at Rutgers Camden to receive another bachelor’s in art history. With that degree in hand, she enjoyed volunteering in the curating department at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and as a docent there. In addition, Jane took up painting, and created a large body of work in pastels, water colors, and her favorite medium, colored pencils. One of her creative passions was restoring the Victorian home she and Wes shared, and surrounding it with gardens. Jane is survived by four children, Thomas B. Goodnow, Phyllis J. Goodnow, Ruth I. Goodnow, John W. Goodnow and their spouses, and a stepson, Carleton Goodnow and his spouse, as well as 5 grandchildren, David Adams, Timothy Adams, Tess Goodnowott, Michael Goodnow, Lena Goodnow, and one step-grandson, Cort Goodnow, and 3 great-grandchildren. The family wishes to heartily thank all the aides, especially the companions from Personally Yours, who so lovingly tended to Jane in her last years. Viewing Sunday Eve.
