Dr. Thomas R. Houseknecht Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Dr Thomas R. Houseknecht of Moorestown, NJ passed away on July 14, 2022, surrounded by his family, at the age of 93. Thomas was born in Harrisburg, PA on August 24, 1928, and moved to Gloucester, NJ with his family in the 1930’s. Thomas served as President for Gloucester High School’s Class of 1946 and was voted “most likely to succeed”. After graduating, he served in the Marines from 1946-1948, receiving an honorable discharge while holding the rank of corporal. Thomas then pursued higher education, receiving bachelors and medical degrees from the University of Pennsylvania (A.B.1952, M.D. 1956). While in medical school, Thomas married his high school sweetheart, Louise Henkel, on June 12, 1954. Among his many accomplishments, Thomas served as President of the New Jersey Psychiatric Association in 1976 and served as New Jersey’s representative to the Assembly of the American Psychiatric Association from 1976-1986. He also served on the Burlington County Mental Health Board from 1986 until his retirement in 1994. Thomas is survived by his daughters Pamela and Eileen and his sons Eric and Paul, as well as grandchildren Nicholas, Peter, Bianca and Elizabeth. Funeral service Saturday, July 30th 10:30 am at the Lewis Funeral Home Moorestown,78 E. Main St. Moorestown, NJ followed by internment in Locustwood Memorial Park.
