Barbara G Lewis

Barbara Gray Lewis (née Blair), age 89, passed away on July 28, 2026, at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, New Jersey. Born on September 12, 1936, in Boston Massachusetts, Barbara lived a life overflowing with love, kindness, and wisdom, touching everyone fortunate enough to be in her orbit. Barbara was the beloved wife of the late Allen J. Lewis, her husband of 56 years, whom she married on June 29, 1958, and with whom she shared a beautiful marriage until his passing on November 14, 2014. She was a devoted mother to her son, Christopher A. Lewis, of Suffern, NY, and her daughter, Marcia Jean Lewis Sellman, of New York City, and a loving grandmother to Amelia Elaine Sellman, also of New York City. She is also survived by her cherished sister, Peggy Kingsley. She was preceded in death by Allen, and by her brothers, David Blair and Alexander Blair. Barbara grew up in Danvers, Massachusetts and attended Salem State College, earning a B.S. Degree in Education. Teaching was Barbara's calling, and in many ways, who she was. She spent 40 years teaching elementary and middle school English, stepping away only briefly to substitute teach while her own children were young. Beyond the classroom, she was known for helping her students with the school newspaper and other activities, always ready to give a little more of herself to the young people in her care. As a young woman, Barbara was an active and enthusiastic member of Rainbow Girls; later in life, following the path Allen had walked as a young man in DeMolay, she became involved in the Masonic family herself as a member of the Eastern Star. She was an avid reader her whole life, and treasured the book clubs that came with it. She loved to swim, a passion she kept up throughout her life. Barbara was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was extremely proud of Christopher, Marcia and Ameila. She and Allen traveled extensively, especially in the years after their careers, with unforgettable trips to China, Egypt, Russia, Australia, New Zealand and Israel; she returned to Israel again years later with friends from her church. They also traveled to the Dominican Republic in support of mission work there andenjoyed river cruises through Europe and a memorable trip to Mexico City. Barbara & Allen moved to Lumberton Leas in January of 2000, where they were among the first pioneers for their community leading and participating in numerous social and nature watching events. Barbara's life after Allen's passing remained full and meaningful. She became a Stephen Minister, offering care and comfort to others in their times of need, and she served on numerous committees both at church and within her community of Lumberton Leas, where she was elected Council President for 2022–2023. Known for her giving nature and her unwavering commitment to others, Barbara consistently placed the needs of those around her before her own. Whether within her family circle, among friends, in her book clubs, or through her active involvement in church and community life, her kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Barbara's legacy of love and service will continue to inspire everyone she touched. She was, simply full of love and caring. Everyone who knew her felt it and loved her right back. She will be deeply missed, and one can only imagine how proud God must be of His beautiful Barbara, and what an example she gave us all through her life. A Funeral Service will be held 11 am on August 14, 2026, at First Presbyterian Church of Moorestown, 101 Bridgeboro Road, Moorestown, NJ 08057. Visitation will be from 10-11 am at the church.
