Gregory Leonberg

Gregory Denison Leonberg Sr., lifelong resident of Moorestown, passed away on July 30, 2026 at 68 with his beloved children by his side. Greg lived a life marked by dedication and service to his family, friends, community, and passions. Service to others was a huge part of Greg’s life. He served over three decades with the Moorestown Fire Department as an active member of Hose Company No. 1. holding key roles such as Lieutenant and Fire Commissioner. Beyond his local contributions, Greg extended his leadership to the broader firefighting community. He served on the board of the New Jersey Firemen's Relief Association and held the position of Burlington County’s representative to the board of the New Jersey Firemen’s Home for an impressive 20 years. His steadfast dedication left an indelible mark on the individuals he worked alongside and the communities he served. Outside of his professional life, Greg found joy in simple yet meaningful pursuits. He had a passion for gardening, landscaping, and collecting antiques of all kinds; from cars and farm equipment, to horse drawn sleighs and even municipal Christmas decorations. More often than not, all of these strange finds were collected through winding road trips arranged via Facebook Marketplace or, in the early days, Craigslist (with printed MapQuest directions and a child reading them from the passenger seat). Greg had one of everything. He took great pride in creating one of the most admired holiday displays in town. His dream was to have a light display so grand it would cause a car accident. Outside of these hobbies, Greg cherished time spent with his children at his second home in Deal Island, Maryland—a place where he could relax and focus on what mattered in his life. Greg’s personality was as distinctive as his interests. Known for his quick temper but equally quick kindness, he was a man who followed his own moral compass above all else, sometimes even the law. Rules seemed to bend around him as he navigated life with a gravitational pull that drew people into his orbit. Greg had an extraordinary ability to forge connections with others, building a vast network of friends and acquaintances who were touched by his generosity and willingness to help whenever needed. Above all else, Greg lived for his children. As a single father for the last 21 years, He worked tirelessly to provide for them and took immense pride in their accomplishments, sharing their successes with anyone who would listen. His love for his children was boundless and evident in every aspect of his life. Greg is survived by his four children: Gregory Denison Leonberg Jr (Shanni); Geoffrey Curtis Leonberg (Emma); Denison Gerard Leonberg; and Alisenne Patrica Leonberg. Greg was predeceased by two beloved children: Geremey Robert Leonberg (October 20, 1999) and Anneliese Joanne Leonberg (May 28, 2001). Greg’s legacy is one of service, love, and individuality—a man who gave selflessly to others while embracing life on his own terms. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and inspire others to live with the same passion and devotion he exemplified every day. A Viewing will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026, from 5:30 PM to 08:00 PM at Lewis Funeral Home 78 East Main St. Moorestown, NJ 08057. A Funeral Service will be held 10 am on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at the First United Methodist Church of Moorestown, 446 East Camden Ave. Moorestown, NJ 08057. Interment will follow at West Laurel Hill Cemetery, 225 Belmont Ave, Bala Cynwyd, Pa. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Moorestown Fire Dept., 261 W Main St, Moorestown, NJ 08057.
