Joan Kaighn

Joan Alma Kaighn, a recent resident of Manatee County, Florida and a long-term resident of Moorestown, New Jersey, passed from this life on April 10, 2025, at the age of 92 years old. Born in Maple Shade, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Alma (Collins) Kaighn and Lewis S. Kaighn. She is survived by her four children: Rev. G. David Bauscher (Spouse-May Bauscher) of Cambridge N.Y., Tina Walsh (Bauscher) of Sarasota, Fl, Jill Bauscher-Neall of Medford, N.J., Michael Bauscher of Toms River, N.J., a brother Jeffrey C. Kaighn, of La Plata, Maryland, several nieces and nephews as well as 26 Grandchildren and many great-grand children, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Joan was pre-deceased by her brothers, Carl L. Kaighn, Robert D. Kaighn, as well as a grandson, Benjamin Bauscher. After graduating from Moorestown High school in 1950, she raised a family and worked in various careers, including working 25 years at Rutgers University in admissions and the law school and selling real estate in her spare time. She was always an advocate for others and was a union steward for many years and vice president of AFSCME Local 1761 at Rutgers, Camden, New Jersey. At the age of 58 and after raising her family, she graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelors Degree in Social Work. After “retiring” she continued helping others at community women’s shelters and advocating for those in crisis. In addition, she LOVED keeping tabs on her many grandchildren. Joan enjoyed reading, traveling, painting, writing and spent hundreds of hours doing genealogy research, including traveling to the Isle of Man and many graveyards and libraries looking for her ancestors. She made our home a refuge filled with love and the center of our lives. All of her family and friends will treasure her spirit, her sense of adventure and will remember her with great love always. Joan Kaighn led a life of immeasurable inspiration and meaning which inspired us all. A visitation for Joan will be held on Friday June 27th from 1-3:00pm, at the Lewis Funeral Home, 78 E. Main Street, Moorestown, NJ 08057.
