Mary Helen Wira

Mary Helen Wira died peacefully on July 21, 2025. She was 98. Born in Moorestown, NJ, her childhood home was in Ship Bottom, NJ, through most of the Great Depression and into the Second World War. Her father was a war casualty in France. Her family returned to Moorestown and Mary built a career in commercial banking. She worked for Burlington County Trust Co. and its successor companies in Moorestown for 24 years, and retired from a supervisory position. Mary married the late Robert E. Wira and their marriage lasted almost 64 years, nearly all of it in Moorestown. They enjoyed a long retirement together, filled with world travel and cherished time with family. For decades, Mary’s family celebrated her birthday in the Poconos, and Mary hosted a family Christmas Eve gathering in her Moorestown home for over thirty years, never missed once. Mary had artistic ability. She was also a gifted seamstress, often making entire wardrobes from scratch. After retirement, Mary and her husband regularly volunteered at Virtua Hospital in Mt Holly, NJ. Mary moved to Wynnewood, PA in 2020 and lived her final four years at Chandler Hall, Newtown, PA. Mary was the oldest child of the late Edward Reynolds Almeda, Jr. and Mary Collins. Her brother was the late Edward Reynolds Almeda, III, of Virginia Beach, VA. Mary and Robert were the parents of Robert Edward Wira, Jr of Yardley, PA (married to Liz Coleman), and Mary Susan Wira of Newtown, PA (married to William G. M. Goetz). Mary had four grandchildren, three step-grandsons, and thirteen great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Moorestown, NJ at 10:30 AM on Monday, August 4, 2025. Visitation for Friends and family will be held church from 9:30AM-10:30 AM. Interment will immediately follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Moorestown, NJ.
